I have ordered two of these off Amazon. I adore this item. But first be forewarned! This set is made in China. There were some flaws, more on this later.
Given all of the bad points, I just adore this product!!!
This is the cutest set ever. The pattern is just adorable. I really sparks the imagination. As I get sick of cheap plastic toys that I hate having, my children get tired of and really equal trash, I was determined to change my ways in how I buy toys.
This is a porcelain set! Not some cheap plastic one, and playing with it really makes all the difference. We have had so much fun with this. When close company comes over we have gone all out and made all sorts of little tea sandwiches with rye bread, Russian cookies and little samples of fruit. It was so much fun for everyone, men and girls alike! I think we all had fun with this, some had better British/Irish accents than others. It believe that a porcelain tea set succeeds where a plastic one doesn’t, it just doesn’t have the same sounds and feel.
Now on to the flaws:
1. The first tea pot wouldn’t pour so I used a dremel and drilled through it with a thin diamond tip. The second one does pour.
2. The flowers are printed not painted.
3. The second set I received had a black dot on one of the tea cups.
4. The wicker basket is not treated or painted, so there are thin wicker pieces sticking out… They are rather soft. Even so I didn’t feel comfortable giving this item to my daughter till I had sanded it down a bit. It seems to be less of an issue after some use.
5. The two I received did not come with the pillow shown in the picture.
6. One of the forks were bent.
My daughter is younger than the recommended age, three, and she did break two of pieces already. Although this is not a toy that can withstand dropping on a wooden floor. Nor would I put it in the dishwasher, although I haven’t tried.
So if you are thinking about ordering, and if a well made set doesn’t come your way return it, or order two and then pick out the pieces with no flaws and return one.
